The Curse Year
A criminal and a revolutionary seek safe haven in a cursed world determined to see them both hang.
Black market delivery woman Malakai has had to claw for everything she’s earned. Ailing under the “curse of the merciful,” a magical affliction that turns friends to murderous foes, she lives with a hand on her sword and her back to the wall. When a payment dispute erupts into violence, she loses more than an eye. With her confidence, independence, and livelihood hanging by a thread, Mal lands in the care of fugitive and failed revolutionary Amis Hawthorne.
Blighted by the “curse of the lovely” that makes him appear as a demon to everyone but himself, Amis is used to being despised. His allies betrayed him; his military abused him; and since escaping prison six years ago, he’s been on a desperate bid to outrun his past. A lonely existence on society’s fringes seems like the best he can hope for — until he meets Malakai.
Malakai knows the world is a vicious place, but Amis’s gentle patience challenges everything she thought she knew about her curse. Amis knows trust is a deadly mistake, but Malakai’s stubborn refusal to treat him as a monster unearths desires he swore to abandon.
As they embark on the path toward a new life, a chance encounter with a figure from Amis’s past brings revelations about his betrayal, triggering the dormant violence within and launching the pair on a harrowing journey through an unforgiving world. With enemies at their heels and oppressive powers threatening every chance at safety, Mal and Amis will have to do more than rely on each other to survive: They’ll also have to confront their own violent histories or be devoured by the consequences.
Assuming, of course, that their curses don’t devour them first.
Resting at the intersection between grimdark and romantic fantasy, The Curse Year features a diverse cast and queer-normative world, gritty violence, and devastating heartbreak. It's a book for anyone who does what they must to survive, who sometimes doesn't recognize their own reflection, and who questions not only the world but their role in creating it. It's romantasy for people who are tired of the tropes, who seek elevated writing, and who find hope in the desperate fight against overwhelming darkness. Lastly, this book is for the anarchists-at-heart, the folks the system has abandoned, and every human filled with rage they have no outlet for but fiction.

project Stargirl
15-year-old Halley Chandra feels like her life has ended with her sister’s. Desperate to escape the grief of losing their youngest daughter, Halley’s parents flee the space colony of Illyria for their more “traditional” home colony of Shahara. But when their ship loses power mid-flight, they’re forced to detour to a matriarchal tech depot on the cusp of a discovery that could change space flight forever. Unbeknownst to Halley, her budding romance with headstrong technical prodigy Thalia zahn Thraxis will thrust her into the middle of a fight for the heart of the planet and the ancient, hyperintelligent species that has called it home for millennia.
Still a work in progress, Project Stargirl is a sapphic eco-sci-fi novel intended for young adults. It deals with themes of belonging, gender roles, social norms, and the impact of technological advancement on the environment. A lighter story than j.f. Lane’s usual fare, Project Stargirl offers a hopeful outlook on the future in which youthful passion can sway not just a community but an entire galaxy toward peaceful coexistence with our most precious and irreplaceable resources. May it offer comfort and inspiration in the midst of dark times.

What exactly is Honey?
Honey
It’s a sitcom-perfect world, unless you’re accidentally transported into it like grimdark protagonist Camilla Sloane. Can a bored office worker break free from a life of sugar-coated drudgery? And in a world where everything is designed to work out and nothing bad ever happens, would it matter if she did?
